Palme Public

Privacy policy

How we handle personal information. Last updated 1 October 2026.

Who we are

Palme Public is a campaign and public affairs team. Until Palme Public Pty Ltd is registered, the business is operated by Palme Publishing Pty Ltd, ABN 35 091 222 490 (we, us, our). We comply with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.

This policy covers palmepublic.com and the personal information we collect in the course of our work. It does not cover other websites we link to.

What we collect

Personal information is information about an identified person, or a person who can reasonably be identified. We collect only what we need to do our work. This usually means:

  • your name, organisation, role, email address and phone number;
  • what you tell us in an enquiry, a meeting, a call or correspondence;
  • information about your organisation and its interests that you give us or that is publicly available;
  • if you take part in research we run, your responses, which we treat in line with the Privacy (Market and Social Research) Code;
  • if you apply to work with us, your application, qualifications and referees.

Some of our work involves political opinions or affiliations, which the Privacy Act treats as sensitive information. We collect sensitive information only with your consent or where the law allows, and only when it is needed for the work.

How we collect it

Directly from you, through the contact form on this site, by email, by phone, in meetings and at events. Sometimes from your organisation, from public sources such as company websites and LinkedIn, or from people who refer you to us.

This site uses analytics tools to understand how it is used: Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager, Microsoft Clarity, which records how visitors move through pages with personal details masked, and the LinkedIn Insight Tag, which tells us the industries and roles of visitors in aggregate and lets us show relevant content on LinkedIn. These tools set cookies. You can block them in your browser settings and the site will still work. We do not use them to identify you by name. The contact form is delivered by Formspree and sends what you type to us by email. We keep a copy of each submission.

Why we use it

  • To respond to your enquiry and decide whether and how we can help.
  • To provide the services you or your organisation engage us for.
  • To manage our relationship with you, including invoicing and records.
  • To tell you about our work, research and events where you would expect us to. You can opt out at any time by replying or emailing contact@palmepublic.com.
  • To meet our legal obligations, including under electoral and lobbying laws.
  • To consider you for a role, if you apply for one.

Who we share it with

We do not sell or rent personal information. We share it only:

  • with contractors and specialists who work with us on a client matter, such as researchers, creatives and media buyers, who are bound to keep it confidential and use it only for that work;
  • with the service providers that run our systems, such as website hosting, email, document storage and the form on this site;
  • with our professional advisers;
  • where you have agreed, or where the law requires or allows it.

Some of these providers store data outside Australia, including in the United States. Where that happens we take reasonable steps to make sure your information is handled in line with the Australian Privacy Principles.

How we keep it secure

We store personal information electronically in access-controlled systems with passwords and two-factor authentication. Access is limited to the partners and the people working on the relevant matter. We keep information for as long as we need it for the purpose it was collected, or as the law requires, and then delete or de-identify it. Email is not a fully secure channel. If you would rather give us something another way, ask.

Access and correction

You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you and ask us to correct it. Email contact@palmepublic.com. We will respond within 30 days. We may need to confirm your identity first. If we decline a request, we will tell you why.

Data breaches

If we become aware of a breach that is likely to cause serious harm, we will notify the people affected and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner, as the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme requires.

Complaints

If you think we have mishandled your personal information, email contact@palmepublic.com with the details. A partner will look into it and reply within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992.

Changes to this policy

We will update this page when our practices change. The date at the top shows the current version.
